ULAA ANNOUNCES NEW DATES FOR 45TH GENERAL ASSEMBLY; ULAA-NEC ADJUSTS ELECTIONS TIMETABLE
WASHINGTON, April 6, 2019 – The National Board Directors of the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA or The Union) announces new dates for the holding of the Union’s 45th General Assembly (GA). The Board made the decision in an Extraordinary Session held on March 28, 2019 via teleconference.
The decision of the Board comes as a result of a recommendation from the National Administration, requesting its blessing to change the dates of the GA from September 20 – 22, 2019 to September 13 – 15, 2019, due to the unavailability of venue. The Board is the highest decision making body of The Union, in the absence of the General Assembly, which comprises of two (2) Representatives from ALL Chapters of The Union.
In its March 28, 2019 Resolution, the Board resolved that:
“Due to the unavailability of Venues, on March 22, 2019, the National Board Directors of the Union received a letter from the Liberian Association of Buffalo, Inc., via the office of the National Executive President, Hon. Vamba S. Fofana [emphasis added] requesting for a change in the date of the convention from September 20th -22nd, 2019 to September 13th -15th, 2019. It is stipulated in the Union Constitution CHAPTER IX Article 4, “The Board shall approve contracts, agreements, memorandum of understandings, and other legal instruments negotiated by the Administration before they are legally binding on the Union”. In view of the above, the National Board of Directors of the Union of Liberian Associations (ULAA), acting consistent with the Constitution of the Union and Board Rules of Procedures, duly assembled in a Special Session via teleconference mode on March 28 2019 and after careful review of the request by the Liberian Association of Buffalo, New York, the National Board of Directors unanimously accepted and granted the Liberian Associations of Buffalo via the office of the National Executive President to change the date of the Convention from September 20th -22nd to September 13th -15th, 2019.”
Meanwhile, ULAA National Elections Commission (ULAA-NEC) is reminding ALL ULAA Member Chapters and the general public to take note of the new dates, which have also affected a slight change in the Elections Timetable. The ULAA-NEC wants to inform ALL Chapters and the general public that the new change ONLY affects the FINAL DEBATE AND ELECTION DAY, and ALL other stipulations in the Timetable REMAIN THE SAME.
The Chairwoman of the National Elections Commission, Hon. Monsio Seedee therefore is calling on ALL prospective candidates to take note of all important dates in the Timetable to avoid electoral controversy. The Timetable is the ULAA-NEC’s official schedules for the order of business. The below is the complete, and the ULAA-NEC is encouraging all prospective candidates to uphold the schedules.
