ULAA’S Statement on Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)

(Washington, March 19, 2020)-The Union of Liberian Associations of the America (ULAA or the Union) urges all Liberians throughout the length and breadth of the United States of America out of the abundance of caution to follow thorough safety protocols as dictated by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the various Departments of Health relative to social distancing, self-observation guidelines with extra care and attention regarding the symptoms of COVID-19 commonly included with fever, cough, sore throat or shortness of breath. Right now, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html) is working closely with county, state, and federal health agencies to help to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses include the following:

    • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
    • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands
    • Avoid close contact with people who are sick
    • Seek immediate medical care if you have symptoms of infection, e.g., high fever or difficulty breathing

Fellow Liberians, let us make no mistake: we are in the fight of our lives to slow the rise of the coronavirus and therefore, we all need to adhere to practices recommended by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO) and distinct health professionals to reduce transmission of the virus in our various communities and to strictly respect new restrictions and limitations. More-importantly, ULAA is encouraging all Liberians and Community Associations leadership stay vigilant and resolute in face of this global threat and adopt precautionary steps such as social distancing and avoidance of large crowd gathering. Lastly, let’s keep the United States of America, Liberia and the entire world in our meditation, prayers and reflection during this unprecedented time. Please try your utmost best to stay safe!
