
(Philadelphia, April 10, 2023)– The Board of Directors of the Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA) has confirmed several prominent Liberians across the United States as Elections’ Commissioners for this year’s 49th general assembly. A resolution signed by ULAA’s Board Chairman, Hon. Alfred Sieh, the Board said its decision is in keeping with its constitutional authority enshrined in Chapter IX, Article 3 of the Union’s Constitution.
In a resolution released April 5, 2023, the Board confirmed Hon. Bartee C. Togba- Elections Chairman, Liberian Association of Pennsylvania, Hon. Aflowa Zaza- Co- Chairperson, Liberian Association of North Jersey and Hon. James McCabe- Secretary, Federation of Liberian Association in Ohio.
Others include, Hon. Cora Wallace Sneh, Member, Organization of Liberians in Minnesota, Hon. Telee Brown, member, Staten Island Liberian Association, Hon. George Blay, member, Liberian Community Association of Washington DC / Metro Areas and Hon. Columbus Zinnah, member, Liberian Association of Indiana
The officials, whose work begins immediately, will develop, design and implement elections policies and guidelines aimed at ensuring successful elections this year. ULAA 49th General Assembly is poised to take place in the City of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on the weekend of September 15th through 17th, 2023. This year’s convention is expected to attract hundreds of Liberians from across the United States, Europe, Asia and Africa. Over 500 Liberians and guests are expected to attend this year’s convention.
ULAA National President Hon. J. Shiwoh Kamara has since declared this year’s convention as a melting point by citing numerous gains made over the years under his leadership. He named passage of the Dual Citizenship law, out of country voting, as well as the Liberian Diaspora Initiative Funds (LDIF) as issues that would top this year’s convention agenda.
Responding to the confirmation, Hon Kamara thanked the Board for the decision and called on all Liberians ULAA’s member chapters to commence preparations for this year’s annual general assembly. The nomination of Elections’ commissioners was in keeping with Chapter IX Article 2(b) of the Union Constitution. Chapter IX, Article 2(b) which among other things states, “the President shall nominate members of Semi-Autonomous Commissions and National Standing Committees with the advice and consent of the Board.”
