Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – October 29, 2023
The Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA) reaffirms Hon. J. Shiwoh Kamara as the current National President, demonstrating his firm commitment to the organization’s stability during recent challenges.
Following the disruption of the 49th General Assembly on September 16, President Kamara diligently adhered to established procedures, working tirelessly to secure a new election date for the union. Under his leadership, the National administration has had meetings with the National Leadership Council and the Board of Directors of ULAA.
A joint meeting with the National Leadership Council and the National Board of Directors was held on Sunday, October 1, and these were their suggestions and recommendations:
- Full Investigation: Initiating a comprehensive and impartial investigation into the incidents leading to the disruption of the ULAA General Elections. This investigation will cover all aspects of the electoral process, addressing delegate selection, the roles played by individuals in the national leadership, and any other pertinent issues.
- Systematic Delegate Selection Reform: Implementing reforms to the systematic delegate selection process based on the findings of the investigation. These reforms will enhance transparency, accountability, and inclusivity, ensuring a fair representation of the membership.
- Addressing Chapter Protests: Fairly and transparently reviewing grievances filed by ULAA Chapters against their leadership. Appropriate actions will be taken to address any legitimate concerns raised by the chapters.
- Recommendation for New Election Date: Recommending a new date for the ULAA General Elections, considering the disruptions and the need for reforms. This fresh start will enable improved processes and uphold the democratic rights of ULAA members.
It is important to note that a formal complaint has been sent to the Eminent Council of ULAA. The eminent council is entrusted with resolving disputes within the union.
Hon. Kamara, alongside Vice President Hon. Grant and the administration remain dedicated to maintaining peace and unity within ULAA. Their collective efforts are focused on ensuring a new election date and bringing the union back to stability.
