The decade-old conflict within the Liberian Community Association of Central New Jersey and Metro Areas (LCACNJMA) took the first reconciliation step. On January 22, 2022, Hon. J. Shiwoh Kamara, National President-ULAA, was invited to coordinate talks amongst the chapter leaders. Accordingly, Hon. Kamara sent a high-power ULAA delegation led by National Executive Vice President, Hon. Minerva Grant, Eastern Region Vice President, Rev. Robert Reeves, NLC National Coordinator, Hon Hayford J. Jarpa to New Jersey on February 5, 2022.
In Hon. Grant’s open statement, she thanked the community and its leadership for attending this remarkable event. She continued by conveying that ULAA’s agenda for the meeting is that all parties let “bygone be bygone” and work together to move the community forward. After few hours of deliberations, all parties agreed to host community elections on Saturday, May 14, 2022. Agreement from the meeting will be:
- ULAA will coordinate all election activities and set up an ad hoc election committee, including election guidelines, printing election materials, and overseeing the casting of ballots.
Overall, Hon. Kamara is thrilled about the outcome and expressed his gratitude to the entire community for their willingness to concur to a resolution that would bring this decade long disruption to an end. He also thanked the ULAA delegation led by Hon. Grant for her leadership.
As always, our goal is to strengthen our communities, as we all continue to strive for a better Liberia. For more information, visit Ulaalib.org or contact us at ourulaa@ulaalib.org.
