ULAA Files Lawsuit Against Former Board Chair , Dea. Alfred Sieh and President of Central New Jersey Chapter President Over Disruption of General Assembly

Philadelphia, PA – November 3, 2023

The Union of Liberian Associations in the Americas (ULAA) announced today that it has filed a lawsuit against former Board Chair, Deacon Alfred Sieh, and President of the Liberian Association of Central New Jersey and the Metro Area (LACNJMA) Mr. Anthony Kpayea, for their alleged involvement in the disruption of the ULAA 49th General Assembly on September 16, 2023.

President J. Shiwoh Kamara, along with the National Leadership of ULAA, initiated legal action following the disturbance that prevented Liberians in the Americas from voting during the General Assembly. Despite President Kamara’s efforts to restore peace and establish a new election date through legal and constitutional means, the disruption led by Sieh and others stopped these attempts.

According to the lawsuit filed in the Court of Common Pleas of Delaware County, Pennsylvania, the defendants are accused of breaching ULAA’s constitution, violating fiduciary duties, and causing imminent and irreparable harm to the organization. The lawsuit seeks preliminary injunctions to prevent further actions in ULAA’s name, as well as remedies for the harm caused.

President Kamara and ULAA’s legal team, led by Attorney Charles Kwalonue Sunwabe Jr., are pursuing legal avenues to ensure the integrity of ULAA’s democratic processes and uphold the organization’s constitution.
